What is the difference between warehousing and storage?

Warehousing means storing goods in a dedicated facility for storage, distribution, and fulfillment, with pallet racking and a warehouse management system that tracks inventory and optimizes picking and packing. Storage focuses on preserving items, whether personal belongings, raw materials, or inventory, in a secure space until they are needed. Warehousing is typically commercial, while storage works for individuals and businesses alike. AKA Moving offers both from one shared Dorval facility.

What can the facility handle?

  • 20,000 sq ft of storage across four dock units, plus a drive-in loading dock
  • Capacity for up to 1,400 pallets on racking and floor storage
  • Certified for storage and handling of all commodity classes
  • Pallet racking, conveyors, wrapping machine, pallet scale, and heat-treated certified pallets on site

With our security system you can rest assured your belongings are safe, whether you need long term storage or just a place to keep your things while you are moving.

Do you store items during a relocation or while travelling?

Yes. If you are only going to be gone a few months, or you are not sure where you will end up, we hold your belongings at low cost no matter how far you are going in Canada. Whether you are moving to another city or travelling, we take the hassle out of it by storing your items and helping get them to their final destination safely.

Section 03

Third-Party Logistics (3PL) & Fulfillment

In business, time is money. That is why companies contract third-party logistics providers to manage their warehousing and fulfillment. By outsourcing these operations, you focus on your core business while we store, handle, and ship your goods, and give you visibility into your supply chain so you can optimize it.

3PL HandlingForklift loading, palletization, and pick & pack for inventory up to 1,400 pallets.

What 3PL services do you offer?

  • Inventory management (WMS) with full tracking and reporting
  • Pick and pack and order processing
  • Palletization, shrink-wrapping, and strapping
  • Container drayage and unloading
  • Order fulfillment, distribution, and transportation management

Do you handle packaging, repackaging, and consolidation?

Yes. Packaging and repackaging are value added services that give you greater control over product quality and protection during shipping. By performing them in house we reduce reliance on outside facilities and cut cost. Our consolidation services include buyer consolidation, labeling, repacking and crating, quality inspection, and systems support with reporting, so multiple inbound shipments can be combined, checked, and prepared for outbound under one roof.

Section 04

Cross-Docking in Montreal

Cross-docking moves products directly from inbound to outbound transport with little or no time in storage. Goods are received at our Dorval warehouse, quickly sorted, and loaded straight onto outbound vehicles instead of being stored. This shortens storage time, saves handling and labour, and speeds up your supply chain. It pairs directly with our LTL freight shipping service.

AKA Moving 53-foot trailer at the Dorval warehouse loading dock
FTL & LTL Fleet53 ft trailers, air-ride and climate-control trucks, GPS-tracked, 7 days a week.

What products suit cross-docking?

Perishable goods such as food, products already labelled or ticketed for sale with barcodes, common retail items with strong or seasonal demand, and new products entering the market. If you have perishable goods, let us know in advance so we can optimize handling.

What types of cross-docking do you handle?

  • Transportation cross-docking: consolidates shipments to reduce the number of trucks on the road and lower transport cost, for LTL or FTL
  • Manufacturing cross-docking: stages inbound parts and supplies for production, reducing storage and labour
  • Distributor cross-docking: combines inbound product from multiple suppliers into outbound loads for retail chains, with receiving and transloading

Cross-docking vs traditional warehousing

Unlike traditional warehousing, which carries storage and handling cost, cross-docking minimizes storage time and removes the need for long term storage. For temporary storage, immediate shipping, or lower transport cost, it is the faster and more cost effective choice. We run cross-dock and transloading 7 days a week, and through our partner cross-dock facilities in Toronto, London, and Vancouver we keep freight moving across Canada and cross-border with 24/7 availability.

Section 05

Freight, FTL & LTL

From the shared Dorval facility we run full truckload (FTL) and less-than-truckload (LTL), consolidate freight, and deliver across Greater Montreal, Ontario, and cross-border routes. For partial loads, see our LTL freight shipping page.

What does your fleet handle?

We run FTL and LTL with box trucks, tailgate-equipped and GPS-tracked, with air-ride and climate-control available, 7 days a week, plus cross-docking and transloading. We specialize in last-mile delivery and asset recovery, and our well trained crew handles all your moving. Every truck carries straps, blankets, bars, and a pallet jack, and we also handle trade show pickups, same-day and hot-shot delivery, and multi-man jobs.

Section 08

Pricing and Getting a Free Quote

Storage and 3PL pricing is based on the space you use, by pallet or by square footage, how long you keep it, and the services you add such as pick and pack, cross-docking, or delivery. There is no long lease. You can store month to month and scale up or down as your volume changes. The fastest way to get an exact number is a quick phone call so we can size your needs.

What affects your storage quote?

  • Volume: the number of pallets or square feet you need
  • Duration: short-term bridge storage versus long-term
  • Handling: receiving, pick and pack, palletization, and labeling
  • Movement: cross-docking, transloading, and FTL or LTL delivery
  • Special needs: fragile, high value, or time-sensitive freight

How do I get started?

Call (514) 915-3967 for a free quote in under five minutes. Tell us roughly how much you need to store and for how long, and we confirm space, pricing, and timing the same day. Prefer to plan ahead? We can hold space for an upcoming move or a seasonal peak.
