Laval Movers
One Bridge From Our Door

A two-mover crew in Laval starts at $125 an hour, the same rate as the island of Montreal, with one hour of transport on the quote. The surprise in Laval is not the price. It is the lit parking sign that turns your street into a no-parking zone the morning of the move, and the container that needs a permit ten business days ahead. Both are on this page.

What it costs

How much do movers cost in Laval?

Movers in Laval with AKA cost $125 an hour for two movers and a truck, or $150 an hour for three. Every job carries a 3-hour minimum plus one hour of transport, the same as the island of Montreal, because Laval is a standard zone for us: one bridge, no surcharge. That number is on the written quote up front, not added at the door. No fuel fee, no bridge fee, no mileage fee, no hidden fees.

$125/hr
Two movers and a truck. The right crew for a 4½ near Montmorency or a bungalow in Fabreville.
$150/hr
Three movers. Faster on a full split-level in Duvernay or a waterfront home in Laval-sur-le-Lac.
1 h
Transport on every Laval quote. Standard zone, same as Montreal. Covers the crew driving out and back.

What makes a Laval move cost more

A condo tower near Montmorency where the freight elevator was never booked, a Pont-Viau triplex with an exterior spiral staircase, a Laval-sur-le-Lac estate with a long driveway and antiques that get white-glove wrapping, a piano, or a garage full of boxes nobody packed. Each of these adds hours, and hours are the only thing you pay for.

Where you are moving

Fourteen former towns on one island, and each one moves differently

Laval merged fourteen municipalities in 1965 and is now Quebec's third-largest city, at about 460,000 residents. The 2021 census counts 76,000 detached houses, 52,000 low-rise apartments, 16,500 units in towers of five storeys or more and 31,000 condos, and the biggest cohort of homes dates from 1961 to 1980. What a crew meets depends entirely on the sector.

Chomedey, Laval-des-Rapides & Pont-Viau

The dense centre around the three metro stations, Cartier, De la Concorde and Montmorency. New condo towers by Place Bell, rental towers along boulevard Chomedey, and the old plex grid of Pont-Viau at the foot of the bridge. These are elevator-booking, loading-dock and lit-sign streets: we confirm the elevator slot and check the parking status the night before. Local pages: Chomedey and Laval-des-Rapides.

Duvernay, Vimont, Auteuil & Saint-Vincent-de-Paul

The east: mid-century bungalows and split-levels in Duvernay, including the El Rancho ranch houses of the 1950s, the 1970s to 1990s cottages of Vimont near its exo station, newer semis in Auteuil, and the old village core of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul by the Centre de la nature. Driveways and garages make loading fast; the job is the volume. Local pages: Duvernay and Vimont.

Sainte-Rose, Fabreville & Sainte-Dorothée

The north and west. Vieux-Sainte-Rose is a heritage sector with 19th-century houses on narrow streets, where the truck position is planned before we arrive. Fabreville is large tract housing from the 1970s to the 2000s, and Sainte-Dorothée now has a REM station on chemin du Bord-de-l'Eau, with new condo projects following it. Local page: Fabreville.

Laval-sur-le-Lac, Îles-Laval, Laval-Ouest & Saint-François

The two ends of the island. Laval-sur-le-Lac and the Îles-Laval are waterfront estates, long driveways and single-bridge island lanes where we confirm the truck can turn around. Laval-Ouest is converted summer cottages on small lots, and Saint-François at the eastern tip is semi-rural with new subdivisions off the A-25. Local pages: Laval-sur-le-Lac, Îles-Laval and Laval-Ouest.

Moving out of Laval? The same crew runs to Montreal over any of the seven bridges, north to Terrebonne and the North Shore, and to the South Shore and West Island. Beyond Greater Montreal, our long distance moving team keeps one crew with your belongings from Laval to the destination. All our service areas are on the movers by city page.

Truck parking on moving day

Do you need a permit to park a moving truck in Laval?

Not for the truck in a legal parking space. Laval's public-road occupation rules require a permit for containers, stored material and anything fixed on the street, and only a declaration for a delivery truck partly blocking a lane outside rush hour. A moving truck parked where parking is allowed, loading at your door, is a parked road vehicle. What does catch people in Laval is different from Montreal.

The lit sign means no parking todayChomedey, Pont-Viau and Laval-des-Rapides now run dynamic lit signs year-round. When the sign is lit, that side of the street is off limits, usually 8 h to 17 h, weekends included. Signs light up hours ahead; check Info-Stationnement the night before.
No blanket winter ban, but alternate sidesFrom October 1 to April 30, sectors with static alternate-parking signs switch sides during snow operations. There is no midnight-to-7 h rule like Terrebonne; the restriction follows the plow. Map, app, SMS alerts and 450 680-2800.
A container needs a permit, 10 business days aheadA storage container or pod on the street requires an occupation permit through Mon dossier: $53 to issue, then a daily rate by width, from $26 a day on a local street. The first 24 hours are free in a legal parking zone. Our truck avoids all of it.
Never in front of a driveway, even yoursBy-law L-6070 bans parking in front of any driveway entrance, including your own, and the ticket is $87 plus $75 if the vehicle is towed. The crew keeps the truck on the road and the ramp clear of the entrance.
No snow onto the streetDumping snow on the street, sidewalk or median is a $107 fine on first offence. Keep the walk to the truck cleared and salted before the crew arrives; it is the fastest hour you will save all day.
What we do the night beforeWe check Info-Stationnement for your street, plan the truck position for the sector, and confirm the freight elevator or dock slot in a condo. We handle the complexity.

Getting rid of what is not coming

Laval écocentres and bulky item pickup, explained

Laval runs two drop-off centres, both on boulevard Dagenais Ouest, open seven days a week and free for residents. Bulky items are collected once a month by zone, or on reservation through Mon dossier. Or, on moving day, our crew takes the old sofa, the dead fridge and the basement pile in the same truck.

Écocentre de Vimont and the Fabreville site

1205, boulevard Dagenais Ouest (Vimont, the only site taking hazardous waste) and 4026, boulevard Dagenais Ouest (Fabreville, the only site taking soil). Open Monday and Tuesday 8 h 30 to 17 h 30, Wednesday to Friday 8 h to 19 h 30, weekends 8 h to 17 h 30. Free with a driver's licence at a Laval address, 3 m³ per visit, 12 m³ a year for wood, debris and soil. Takes mattresses, sofas, appliances, fridges, electronics, wood, gypsum and tires. Dump trailers are refused.

Bulky item pickup (encombrants)

Two ways. Monthly by zone, 11 collections a year, dates by address on the City site; everything goes to landfill. Or on reservation through Mon dossier, which assigns a date per category and recycles what it can. Both: max 2 m³ per address, 1.80 m long, liftable by two people, out after 19 h the day before. Mattresses are accepted. Fridges, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers are never collected: écocentre or a free GoRecycle pickup.

Or we haul it during your move

The most efficient way to clear a home in Laval is to fold the junk into the move you are already booking: same crew, same truck, same day, sorted for donation and recycling on the way out. For a stand-alone cleanout, see junk removal, priced at movers' rates plus a small disposal fee. Businesses cannot put bulky items at the curb in Laval at all, so an office cleanout goes on our truck.

Storage in Laval

When the new condo is not ready on the date the old lease ends

Condo deliveries around Montmorency and the new REM stations slip. Leases in Laval end on July 1 whether the builder is ready or not. Instead of renting a unit in Laval and paying two crews to move everything twice, we load once, hold your belongings in our monitored warehouse in Lachine, fifteen minutes over the bridge, and deliver when the keys are real. One crew, one inventory list, one invoice. Details on the warehousing and storage page.

Change of address and city paperwork

The Laval moving checklist nobody sends you

Most of the cost of a move happens after the truck leaves: a Hydro account still in your name, a tax bill that never gets reissued to the new owner, a bin you tried to take with you. Six things to do, with the official link for each.

One form for seven Quebec agenciesThe Service québécois de changement d'adresse updates RAMQ, SAAQ, Revenu Québec, Retraite Québec and three others in one shot.
Hydro-QuébecTransfer the account in your Hydro-Québec customer space before the move. Doing it online saves $25 versus by phone.
The bins stay with the houseLaval bins are City property with serial numbers tied to the address. Leave them. Missing bins at the new place are requested free in Mon dossier. Since April 2026 the black bin is collected every two weeks.
Welcome tax, and register for the tax billTransfer duties run 3% above $500,000 in 2026, due within 30 days. The City does not reissue the annual tax bill on a sale, so new owners register themselves. Transfer duties in Laval.
Library card replaces the Carte AvantagesThe Carte Avantages Laval was retired in April 2026. The library card now unlocks the libraries and recreation registration. Library hours and addresses.
New resident guide and schoolsThe City's new residents page has the welcome guide. Schools: CSS de Laval and the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board.

Add Canada Post mail forwarding, and if a pool is moving with you, the City needs a permit before it is installed. Everything else on this list, the crew handles on the day.

Why Laval calls AKA

Our own crew, our own trucks, the real hours in writing

AKA Moving was founded in 2019 and runs from a warehouse at 10500 Côte-de-Liesse in Lachine, one bridge from Laval. We do not broker your move to a subcontractor. The crew that quotes the job is the crew that shows up, with blankets, mattress covers, dollies, straps and floor protection on the truck, and double coverage insurance through Northbridge included on every job. On July 1 we staff with our own trained movers and never overbook. Licensing, insurance and the people behind the company are on the about page.

Questions

Laval moving questions, answered

Q What is the price of a move in Laval?

Movers in Laval cost from $125 an hour for two movers and a truck, or $150 an hour for three, with a 3-hour minimum plus 1 hour of transport, the same rate card as the island of Montreal. A 4½ with normal access usually takes four to five hours of work. Stairs, a piano or an unbooked elevator add time. The rate includes the truck, fuel, equipment and double coverage insurance, with no hidden fees.

Q Do I need a permit to park a moving truck in Laval?

Not for a truck in a legal on-street parking space. Laval requires an occupation permit for containers, pods and material stored on the street, applied for through Mon dossier ten business days ahead, with a $53 issuance fee and a daily rate. Watch the dynamic lit signs in Chomedey, Pont-Viau and Laval-des-Rapides, which ban parking on one side when lit, and never park in front of a driveway, including your own.

Q Where is the Laval écocentre and what does it take?

Laval has two: the Écocentre de Vimont at 1205, boulevard Dagenais Ouest, and the dry-materials site at 4026, boulevard Dagenais Ouest in Fabreville. Both are open seven days, free for residents with ID at a Laval address, 3 m³ per visit and 12 m³ a year for wood, debris and soil. They take mattresses, sofas, appliances, fridges, electronics and construction debris. Dump trailers are refused.

Q When is bulky item pickup in Laval?

Once a month by collection zone, 11 times a year, with dates by address on laval.ca, or on reservation through Mon dossier. Items go out after 19 h the day before, maximum 2 m³ per address and 1.80 m long. Mattresses are accepted; fridges, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers are never collected and go to the écocentre or a free GoRecycle pickup. If moving day does not line up, our crew takes it on the truck.

Q Is there a winter parking ban in Laval?

Not a blanket night ban. From October 1 to April 30, sectors with alternate-parking signs switch sides during snow operations, and Chomedey, Pont-Viau and Laval-des-Rapides use lit signs year-round that ban one side when lit, usually 8 h to 17 h. Status is on the Info-Stationnement map, app and SMS alerts, and at 450 680-2800. For a winter move we check it the night before.

Q Do you move from Laval to Montreal, the North Shore or the South Shore?

Yes, every week. Laval to Montreal is any of the seven bridges and the same rate card. Terrebonne and the North Shore, the South Shore and the West Island are the same crew. Moves beyond Greater Montreal, to Quebec City, Ottawa, Toronto or across Canada, are quoted as a fixed price by our long distance team.

Q Can you store my belongings if my new place in Laval is not ready?

Yes. We load once, hold everything in our monitored warehouse in Lachine, fifteen minutes over the bridge, for as long as you need, and deliver to Laval when the keys are ready. Same crew, one inventory list, so nothing is moved twice by two different companies.
