What it costs

How much do movers cost in Saint-Hyacinthe?

Movers in Saint-Hyacinthe with AKA cost $125 an hour for two movers and a truck, or $150 an hour for three. Every job carries a 3-hour minimum plus transport. Saint-Hyacinthe is about an hour east of our base on the A-20, so the transport on a Saint-Hyacinthe quote is 2 hours for the round trip, written on your quote before you sign, not added at the door. No fuel fee, no mileage fee, no hidden fees. Moves from Saint-Hyacinthe to Montreal, Laval or the South Shore are quoted the same way.

Two movers and a truck. The right crew for a 4½ downtown or a bungalow in Bois-Joli.
$150/hr

What makes a Saint-Hyacinthe move cost more

A third-floor walk-up on rue des Cascades with the truck parked around the corner, a two-storey plex in Notre-Dame with an interior staircase, a piano, or a student 3½ that has to be out the same morning as forty others. Each of these adds hours, and hours are the only thing you pay for.

Where you are moving

A renter's city with a heritage core, and each quarter moves differently

Saint-Hyacinthe counts about 61,000 residents and, unusually for a city its size, 49% of homes are apartments and 51% of households rent. Seventy percent of the housing was built before 1990. The city's own urban plan sorts it into old quarters, newer quarters and village cores, and a crew needs to know which one it is driving into.

Centre-Ville, Notre-Dame & Sacré-Coeur

The old quarters between the Yamaska and the railway. Two- and three-storey multi-unit buildings, shops below and flats above on rue des Cascades, heritage houses on the western strips, and streets that were never drawn for a 26-foot truck. We plan where the truck stops before the crew arrives, and every interior staircase gets blankets on the rails.

Bois-Joli, Saint-Sacrement & L'Assomption

The newer quarters north of the tracks, toward the A-20 and the Galeries. Bois-Joli is almost entirely detached houses with driveways and garages, so the volume is the job, not the access. Saint-Sacrement mixes two-storey plexes with single-family streets. Fast loads, easy parking.

La Providence, Saint-Joseph & Douville

The three villages merged in 1976, on both banks of the river. Mostly single-family with a few two-storey plexes, joined to downtown by the Barsalou and Douville bridges. The écocentre sits in Saint-Joseph on rue Brouillette. Riverside basements near ruisseau Mercier sit in a mapped flood zone, so tell us if the basement has a sump pump and we plan the load order around it.

Sainte-Rosalie & Saint-Thomas-d'Aquin

The 2002 village cores at the edges: detached houses on long lots along boulevard Laurier Est and route 137, garages, sheds and a lot of driveway. New condo projects are rising across the city, with more than 7,000 units planned, so a freight-elevator booking is becoming a normal part of a Saint-Hyacinthe quote.

Students at the veterinary faculty, the ITAQ and the Cégep arrive and leave on the same dates every year, and the summer bulky-item collection is timed to the same week. Moving out of Saint-Hyacinthe? The same crew runs to Montreal, Laval, the South Shore and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Beyond Greater Montreal, our long distance moving team keeps one crew with your belongings from Saint-Hyacinthe to the destination. All our service areas are on the movers by city page.

Truck parking on moving day

Do you need a permit to park a moving truck in Saint-Hyacinthe?

Not while it is loading. The new traffic and parking by-law, Règlement 1700, in force since June 1, 2026, caps trucks and trailers on a public street at 60 minutes, but article 53 exempts vehicles doing loading and unloading as long as the work does not stop. A moving truck working your door is legal without a permit. Four rules still catch people.

20 hours maximum on any streetArticle 48: no vehicle stays more than 20 hours on a public road or in a public lot. A truck left overnight before the move is the one thing that gets ticketed.
Winter night ban, Nov 1 to Apr 15Street parking is banned from 1 h to 6 h across the whole city, lifted only on the holidays of Dec 24 to 26 and 31 and Jan 1 and 2. The City posts one of three statuses every evening after 17 h; check by SMS, the web page or 450 778-8478.
A container or reserved spaces need a permitRèglement 399 requires a permit from the Service du génie to place a container, a trailer or reserve parking spaces on the street, with a flat fee by number of days. Send the form to genie@st-hyacinthe.ca. Our truck needs none of it.
Downtown is the permit-sensitive zoneThe old core is tight, so the winter status often bans the central zone alone while the rest of the city is tolerated. Resident vignettes start at $70 from July 2026 and do not exempt you from a snow-loading night.
No snow onto the streetArticle 121 forbids dumping snow or ice on the public road, and the fronting owner is presumed responsible. Orange signs for snow loading can go up until 18 h the same day.
What we do the night beforeFor a winter move we check the City status after 17 h, plan the truck position for the quarter, and confirm the freight elevator or dock slot if there is one. We handle the complexity.

Getting rid of what is not coming

Saint-Hyacinthe écocentre and bulky item pickup, explained

Waste in Saint-Hyacinthe is run by the RIAM, the regional board for Acton and the Maskoutains. The écocentre is free for residents, open three days a week in season, and bulky items are collected only three weeks a year. Or, on moving day, our crew takes the old sofa, the dead fridge and the basement pile in the same truck.

Écocentre de Saint-Hyacinthe

1880, rue Brouillette (Saint-Joseph sector, off route 137). Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 8 h 30 to 16 h 30, from April 10 to November 29 in 2026. Free for residents of the RIAM municipalities with proof of residence, one visit per person per day, trailers up to 4 by 8 feet. Takes furniture, appliances, fridges and freezers, electronics, construction debris, metals and car tires. Refuses commercial loads and truck tires. Household hazardous waste has two drop-off days a year at the Stade L.-P.-Gaucher.

Bulky item pickup (gros rebuts)

Three times a year, one week each. In 2026: May 4 to 8, June 29 to July 3, and October 5 to 9, with each of the five collection sectors on its regular garbage day. The summer week is deliberately set on moving week. Put items out before 7 h, at the curb, stacked neatly. Mattresses and box springs are accepted in a sealed bag; stoves, washers, water heaters and furniture too. Fridges, freezers, air conditioners, electronics and renovation debris are refused and go to the écocentre.

Or we haul it during your move

Nine months of the year there is no bulky pickup coming, and the écocentre is closed four days a week. The most efficient way to clear a home is to fold the junk into the move you are already booking: same crew, same truck, same day, sorted for donation and recycling on the way out. For a stand-alone cleanout, see junk removal, priced at movers' rates plus a small disposal fee.

Storage between two Saint-Hyacinthe addresses

When the lease ends before the next place is ready

With a 2% vacancy rate and more than 7,000 new units still under construction, Saint-Hyacinthe leases end on July 1 whether the new building is finished or not. Instead of renting a unit and paying two crews to move everything twice, we load once, hold your belongings in our monitored warehouse in Montreal for a week or a season, and deliver when the keys are real. One crew, one inventory list, one invoice. Details on the warehousing and storage page.

Change of address and city paperwork

The Saint-Hyacinthe moving checklist nobody sends you

Most of the cost of a move happens after the truck leaves: a Hydro account still in your name, a tax bill mailed to the old address, a black garbage bin you did not know you had to buy. Six things to do, with the official link for each.

One form for seven Quebec agenciesThe Service québécois de changement d'adresse updates RAMQ, SAAQ, Revenu Québec, Retraite Québec and three others in one shot.
Hydro-QuébecTransfer the account in your Hydro-Québec customer space before the move. Doing it online saves $25 versus by phone.
Blue and brown bins stay; the black one is yoursRecycling and compost bins belong to the address. For buildings of five units or fewer the garbage bin is bought by the owner. Missing bin: City service requests.
Municipal taxes and the welcome taxOne bill a year in January, four instalments. New owners pay the transfer duty, 3% above $500,000 in 2026. Taxes and the address-change form.

Why Saint-Hyacinthe calls a Montreal crew

Our own crew, our own trucks, the real hours in writing

AKA Moving was founded in 2019 and runs from a warehouse at 10500 Côte-de-Liesse in Lachine. We do not broker your move to a subcontractor. The crew that quotes the job is the crew that shows up, with blankets, mattress covers, dollies, straps and floor protection on the truck, and double coverage insurance through Northbridge included on every job. On July 1 we staff with our own trained movers and never overbook. Licensing, insurance and the people behind the company are on the about page.

Questions

Saint-Hyacinthe moving questions, answered

Q What is the price of a move in Saint-Hyacinthe?

Movers in Saint-Hyacinthe cost from $125 an hour for two movers and a truck, or $150 an hour for three, with a 3-hour minimum plus 2 hours of transport for the round trip from Montreal, written on the quote. A 4½ with normal access usually takes four to five hours of work. Stairs, a piano or an unbooked elevator add time. The rate includes the truck, fuel, equipment and double coverage insurance, with no hidden fees.

Q Do I need a permit to park a moving truck in Saint-Hyacinthe?

No, not while it is loading. Règlement 1700 limits trucks on a street to 60 minutes but exempts vehicles doing continuous loading and unloading. Any vehicle is limited to 20 hours on a street, so a truck cannot be left overnight. A container or reserved parking spaces need a temporary occupation permit under Règlement 399. From November 1 to April 15, street parking is banned from 1 h to 6 h unless the City's evening status says otherwise.

Q Where is the Saint-Hyacinthe écocentre and what does it take?

The RIAM écocentre is at 1880, rue Brouillette in the Saint-Joseph sector, open Friday to Sunday from 8 h 30 to 16 h 30 between April and the end of November. It is free for residents with proof of residence, one visit per person per day, trailers up to 4 by 8 feet. It takes furniture, appliances, fridges, electronics, construction debris, metals and car tires, and refuses commercial loads and truck tires.

Q When is bulky item pickup in Saint-Hyacinthe?

Three weeks a year. In 2026 the weeks are May 4 to 8, June 29 to July 3, and October 5 to 9, each sector on its regular garbage day. Items go out before 7 h at the curb. Mattresses in a sealed bag, furniture, stoves, washers and water heaters are accepted; fridges, freezers, air conditioners, electronics and renovation debris are refused. Outside those three weeks, our crew takes it on the truck.

Q How far ahead should I book movers in Saint-Hyacinthe for July 1?

Four to eight weeks for the last week of June and the first week of July. Half the city rents, students at the veterinary faculty, the ITAQ and the Cégep move on the same dates, and the bulky collection lands the same week, so the streets are busy. AKA staffs July 1 with its own trained crew and does not overbook. A mid-month weekday move can often be booked within a week.

Q Do you move from Saint-Hyacinthe to Montreal, Laval or the South Shore?

Yes, every week. Saint-Hyacinthe to Montreal runs the A-20 west, about an hour, and the transport time is already in the quote. Laval and the South Shore are the same crew and the same rate card. Moves beyond Greater Montreal, to Quebec City, Ottawa, Toronto or across Canada, are quoted as a fixed price by our long distance team.

Q Can you store my belongings if my new place in Saint-Hyacinthe is not ready?

Yes. We load once, hold everything in our monitored warehouse in Montreal for as long as you need, and deliver to Saint-Hyacinthe when the keys are ready. Same crew, one inventory list, so nothing is moved twice by two different companies.
