Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Movers
On Both Banks of the River
A two-mover crew in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu starts at $125 an hour, with the 2 hours of transport for the round trip from Montreal written on the quote before you sign. The surprise here is not the rate. It is the three-hour meter downtown, the write-in permit a container needs, and the écocentre that closes Wednesday and Thursday. All of it is on this page.
What it costs
How much do movers cost in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu?
Movers in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu with AKA cost $125 an hour for two movers and a truck, or $150 an hour for three. Every job carries a 3-hour minimum plus transport. Saint-Jean sits about 40 km southeast of Montreal, so the transport on a Saint-Jean quote is 2 hours for the round trip, written on your quote before you sign, not added at the door. No fuel fee, no bridge fee, no mileage fee, no hidden fees. Moves from Saint-Jean to Montreal, the South Shore or Laval are quoted the same way.
What makes a Saint-Jean move cost more
A downtown walk-up where the meter allows three hours and the truck has to work from around the corner, an Iberville heritage house with an interior staircase, a piano, a basement that flooded in 2011 and now stores everything upstairs, or a garage full of boxes nobody packed. Each of these adds hours, and hours are the only thing you pay for.

Where you are moving
Five former towns across the Richelieu, and each one moves differently
Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu merged with Iberville, Saint-Luc, L'Acadie and Saint-Athanase in 2001 and now counts just over 100,000 residents, the second-largest city in the Montérégie. The 2021 census shows 21,500 detached houses against 15,800 apartments in low-rise buildings, a 60/40 split of owners to renters, and nearly 11,000 people who moved in the last year. Which bank of the river you are on decides how the crew works.
Vieux-Saint-Jean and the west bank
The historic downtown along the river: apartments above shops, metered streets with a three-hour limit, resident-vignette zones and a downtown winter ban from 3 h to 6 h. Some streets are closed to trucks except for local delivery, which a move is. We plan the truck position before the crew arrives, and every interior staircase gets blankets on the rails.
Iberville and Saint-Athanase, east bank
Across the Gouin bridge: the heritage quarters of the Vieux-Iberville, an industrial park, and the former farm parish of Saint-Athanase turned residential, with big lots and quiet streets. The Iberville écocentre is here on rue Lucien-Beaudin. Detached houses with driveways make loading fast; old houses with narrow doors do not.
Saint-Luc
The sector closest to the A-35 and Montreal, which is why it grew: newer subdivisions, commercial strips along boulevard Saint-Luc, and the Saint-Luc écocentre on rue Gaudette. The average single-family home in the city is now over $400,000 and 1,500 new units are in planning, so a freight-elevator booking is becoming part of a normal quote here.
L'Acadie, and the Garrison
L'Acadie is mostly rural along its river, with heritage houses and new projects at its edge. The Garrison Saint-Jean and the Royal Military College bring more than 7,000 recruits and hundreds of staff through the city every year, and their postings land in the same summer weeks as everyone else's leases. If you are moving on military orders, tell us and we work to your report date.
Moving out of Saint-Jean? The same crew runs to Montreal over the Champlain bridge, to the South Shore, to Laval and to Saint-Hyacinthe. Beyond Greater Montreal, our long distance moving team keeps one crew with your belongings from Saint-Jean to the destination. All our service areas are on the movers by city page.
Truck parking on moving day
Do you need a permit to park a moving truck in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu?
No, not while it is loading. The City's parking by-law, Règlement 1275, says a truck may stand on the street only to load or unload goods, which is exactly what a moving truck does. The occupation by-law, Règlement 1885, applies to anything that is not a parked vehicle, so a container or a pile of material needs written authorization from Public Works. Four rules still catch people.

Getting rid of what is not coming
Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu écocentres and bulky item pickup, explained
Waste in Saint-Jean is run by Compo-Haut-Richelieu, which operates two écocentres inside the city, one on each bank, and a monthly bulky-item collection with a separate on-call pickup for metal and appliances. Or, on moving day, our crew takes the old sofa, the dead fridge and the basement pile in the same truck.
Écocentres Iberville and Saint-Luc
825, rue Lucien-Beaudin (Iberville): Monday, Tuesday and Friday 8 h to 16 h, Saturday 9 h to 16 h, closed Wednesday and Thursday. 950, rue Gaudette (Saint-Luc): Tuesday to Friday 8 h to 16 h, Saturday 9 h to 16 h, closed Monday. Closing time is when unloading must be finished. Driver's licence required; new owners without a tax bill bring the notarized deed. Mattresses, sofas, appliances, metal and electronics are free and unlimited for residents; wood, gypsum, concrete and non-upholstered furniture get 3 free loads of 75 cubic feet a year. Debit or credit only.
Bulky item pickup (gros rebuts)
Once a month, on the date marked with the armchair icon on your address's calendar. Buildings of five units or fewer: no booking, curbside before 7 h, pickup can run until 19 h. Six units or more: call 450 347-0299. Accepted: mattresses and box springs, sofas, armchairs, office chairs, tarps and cut carpets. Refused at the curb: appliances, wood furniture, TVs, toilets, construction material, which go to the écocentre. Fridges, water heaters and metal get a free on-call pickup, placed beside the house, not at the curb.
Or we haul it during your move
The most efficient way to clear a home in Saint-Jean is to fold the junk into the move you are already booking: same crew, same truck, same day, sorted for donation and recycling on the way out. For a stand-alone cleanout, see junk removal, priced at movers' rates plus a small disposal fee. Planning a garage sale before the move? The City requires a vente-débarras permit first.

Storage between two Saint-Jean addresses
When the new house is not ready on the date the old one ends
New builds in Saint-Luc and L'Acadie slip, military postings come with a report date that does not match a closing date, and leases end on July 1 regardless. Instead of renting a unit in Saint-Jean and paying two crews to move everything twice, we load once, hold your belongings in our monitored warehouse in Montreal for a week or a season, and deliver when the keys are real. One crew, one inventory list, one invoice. Details on the warehousing and storage page.

Change of address and city paperwork
The Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu moving checklist nobody sends you
Most of the cost of a move happens after the truck leaves: a Hydro account still in your name, a welcome-tax bill that arrives three months later, a blue bin you took with you that belonged to the old address. Six things to do, with the official link for each.
Add Canada Post mail forwarding, and text CRUE to 22100 for the City's flood alerts if you are near the Richelieu. Everything else on this list, the crew handles on the day.
Why Saint-Jean calls a Montreal crew
Our own crew, our own trucks, the real hours in writing
AKA Moving was founded in 2019 and runs from a warehouse at 10500 Côte-de-Liesse in Lachine. We do not broker your move to a subcontractor. The crew that quotes the job is the crew that shows up, with blankets, mattress covers, dollies, straps and floor protection on the truck, and double coverage insurance through Northbridge included on every job. On July 1 we staff with our own trained movers and never overbook. Licensing, insurance and the people behind the company are on the about page.

Questions
Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu moving questions, answered
Q What is the price of a move in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu?
Movers in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu cost from $125 an hour for two movers and a truck, or $150 an hour for three, with a 3-hour minimum plus 2 hours of transport for the round trip from Montreal, written on the quote. A 4½ with normal access usually takes four to five hours of work. Stairs, a piano or an unbooked elevator add time. The rate includes the truck, fuel, equipment and double coverage insurance, with no hidden fees.
Q Do I need a permit to park a moving truck in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu?
No. Under Règlement 1275 a truck may stand on the street to load or unload goods, which is what a move is. A storage container or material left on the street is different and needs written authorization from Public Works under Règlement 1885. Downtown meters allow three hours, and between November 1 and April 30 night parking is banned from 23 h to 6 h during snow operations, 3 h to 6 h downtown. Text NEIGE to 22100 for the status.
Q Where is the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu écocentre and what does it take?
There are two, run by Compo-Haut-Richelieu: Iberville at 825, rue Lucien-Beaudin, open Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, and Saint-Luc at 950, rue Gaudette, open Tuesday to Saturday. Bring your driver's licence. Mattresses, upholstered furniture, appliances, metal and electronics are free and unlimited for residents; construction material and wood furniture get three free loads of 75 cubic feet a year. Payment by debit or credit only.
Q When is bulky item pickup in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu?
Once a month, on the date shown with the armchair icon on your address's Compo calendar. Buildings of five units or fewer need no booking; put items at the curb before 7 h. Mattresses, sofas and armchairs are accepted; appliances, wood furniture, TVs and construction material are refused at the curb and go to the écocentre. Fridges and metal items get a free on-call pickup at 450 347-0299. If moving day does not line up, our crew takes it on the truck.
Q How far ahead should I book movers in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu for July 1?
Four to eight weeks for the last week of June and the first week of July. Leases, new-build closings and military postings at the Garrison all land in the same weeks. AKA staffs July 1 with its own trained crew and does not overbook, which is why the dates fill. A mid-month weekday move can often be booked within a week.
Q Do you move from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu to Montreal, the South Shore or Laval?
Yes, every week. Saint-Jean to Montreal runs the A-35, the A-10 and the Champlain bridge, and the transport time is already in the quote. The South Shore, Laval and the West Island are the same crew and the same rate card. Moves beyond Greater Montreal, to Quebec City, Ottawa, Toronto or across Canada, are quoted as a fixed price by our long distance team.
Q Can you store my belongings if my new place in Saint-Jean is not ready?
Yes. We load once, hold everything in our monitored warehouse in Montreal for as long as you need, and deliver to Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu when the keys are ready. Same crew, one inventory list, so nothing is moved twice by two different companies.
